There must be no reduction of Services in the Emergency Department, Cavan General Hospital – Brendan Smith TD

Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD, Brendan Smith said that it would be totally unacceptable to reduce the present level of services in the Emergency Department in Cavan General Hospital.

Brendan Smith was commenting on recent media reports that 9 hospitals including Cavan General would have emergency trauma services withdrawn.

“The huge number of people attending Cavan every week indicates very clearly the need for its Emergency Department to retain all services. Only last May I had raised through Parliamentary Questions in Dail Éireann the need to provide new accommodation and additional facilities at the Cavan Emergency Department given the large number of patients attending. Subsequently the HSE replied to me stating that Cavan and Monaghan Hospital is currently preparing a proposal in relation to the expansion of adult and paediatric resuscitation space for the Emergency Department at Cavan General Hospital” Brendan Smith stated.
