Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith has been informed by the Clinical Director of the National Women and Infants Health Programme of the HSE that they have not been involved in the proposal to merge the Midwifery Led Unit in Cavan General Hospital with the Consultant Led Services.  The Clinical Director states that as Cavan General Hospital is part of the RCSI Hospital Group any decisions about its operations are made by senior management of that Group.

The National Women & Infants Health Programme have been instructed by the Department of Health to seek an urgent report from the RCSI Hospital Group which they expect to have by the end of this week.  They state that the Minister for Health will meet with the INMO on Friday on this issue.
