Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan and Monaghan, Brendan Smith has welcomed the allocation by the Minister for Sport, Jack Chambers T.D. of €80 million to support the sports sector nationally, with €128,350 going to Cavan and Monaghan.
Deputy Brendan Smith commented, “Minister Chambers has allocated €73.6 million in Covid-19 funding to help sports organisations to recover and grow post pandemic and €5.3 million is being allocated to provide sports equipment. The national governing bodies of various sports are being allocated this funding to support the grassroots network of clubs right throughout the country in every community. Every area must benefit from this large-scale government financial assistance.
“This major funding recognises the important contribution that sport and physical activity make to everyday living. I welcome this specific investment for the disability sports sector and dedicated funding is also being allocated to local sports partnerships.”
The Cavan and Monaghan TD added: “Cavan Sports Partnership will receive €108,000 and Monaghan Sports Partnerships has been allocated €20,350. I welcome the work and commitment of our local sports partnerships in advancing participation in sport and recreation at a local level.
“Great credit is due to all our sports organisations for their ongoing work in ensuring that people of all ages have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sporting disciplines and that our games have continued during very difficult days since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic,” concluded Deputy Brendan Smith.
