Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith has received confirmation that the HSE will continue to work through the detailed design stage for the upgrade and extension of the Accident and Emergency Department at Cavan General Hospital whilst awaiting the outcome of the planning permission application which has been submitted to Cavan County Council.

“I welcome this confirmation following Parliamentary Questions I tabled to the Minister for Health in Dáil Éireann regarding the need to upgrade and extend the A&E Department, provide a new Endoscopy Unit and provide 18 additional beds. 

Last July Minister Donnelly confirmed that financial provision had been made in the 2021 Capital Plan for the Department of Health to enable these projects to be progressed.  The upgrading of existing accommodation and the provision of new accommodation at the hospital will enhance considerably the provision of health care locally. For some time there have been considerable pressures on hospital accommodation”, stated Brendan Smith TD.
