€238,000 MONUMENTS FUNDING FOR CAVAN/MONAGHAN – BRENDAN SMITH TD

“I welcome the approval by Minister Darragh O’Brien and Minister Malcolm Noonan of €238,000 for Cavan/Monaghan under the 2022 Community Monuments Fund.  €128,000 has been approved in respect of four projects in County Cavan and €110,000 for two projects in County Monaghan.

I compliment the Heritage Officers in Cavan and Monaghan County Councils and the local community groups involved in preparing these successful applications.  This work is essential in protecting archaeological heritage and, indeed, such monuments provide a sense of place in many communities, both urban and rural, throughout the country.  It is also notable that the wide range of projects reflect the rich history of our countryside.

The aim of the Community Monuments Fund is to assist in the conservation, maintenance, protection and promotion of historic sites and local monuments.  The successful projects and the grant-aid approved in Cavan and Monaghan are:

Drumlane Abbey –                                €84,698.50

St Mogue’s Island –                              €15,473.40

Moybologue Graveyard –                      €13,139.50

Moneygashel Cashel –                           €14,491.86

Errigal Truagh Church –                        €82,032.45

Killevan Church and Graveyard –         €28,137.00

I wish all involved in these projects continued success with this important work” stated Brendan Smith TD.
