Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan and Monaghan, Brendan Smith has received confirmation that two additional Garda Sergeants will be allocated to the Ballyconnell Sub-district. This follows continued efforts by the Deputy to secure increased resources for the area.
Deputy Brendan Smith commented, “I have also been informed that it is envisaged that additional resources in this regard will be allocated to Cavan District going forward.
“Following the despicable attack at the end of February on a Member of An Garda Síochána in the Blacklion area I had raised again through Parliamentary Questions in Dáil Éireann the need to provide additional Garda resources to the Cavan/Monaghan Garda Division in view of the unique policing demands of the border region.”
The Cavan and Monaghan TD added: “The Garda Authorities state that as of 28 February 2022 there were 382 Gardai assigned to the Cavan/Monaghan Division. This is an increase of 20% compared to December 2015, when there was 318 Gardai assigned to the Division. Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee also added that the Armed Support Unit in Cavan has also enhanced and supported border policing and security, and will continue to do so.”
