Brendan Smith: €5.7m health capital plan funding for Cavan and Monaghan a welcome boost for counties

Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan and Monaghan, Brendan Smith has welcomed confirmation from Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly, of €5.7m in this year’s HSE Capital Programme for projects in Cavan and Monaghan.

€500,000 in this year’s HSE Capital Programme will go towards progressing the planning and design of the major upgrade and extension of the Accident & Emergency Department in Cavan General Hospital.

Minister Donnelly has also confirmed the provision of €100,000 to purchase a site at the rear of the Primary Care Unit in Virginia for future development of health services.

Deputy Brendan Smith commented, “I have long advocated for extended and improved facilities in the Emergency Department of Cavan General and it is heartening to see this project make significant progress over the past 18 months.”

The Cavan and Monaghan TD added: “The allocation of €5.1m to enable the development of a Primary Care Centre at the St. Davnet’s Complex in Monaghan Town is a welcome development and significantly this will include a Mental Health Primary Care Centre.

“I welcome Minister Donnelly’s provision of substantial funding for the upgrading of healthcare facilities”, concluded Deputy Brendan Smith.
