Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith has warmly welcomed the allocation of €8.5 million by his Fianna Fáil colleague, Minister for Sport, Thomas Byrne TD for the development of sports facilities throughout Cavan and Monaghan. €650,000 was also allocated earlier in respect of equipment grants across both counties.
“This is the largest – ever investment in sports facilities nationwide and Cavan and Monaghan are significant beneficiaries. I am delighted to have worked along with Clubs across different sporting disciplines in progressing their applications. Great credit is due to the volunteers in every parish who work week in week out to ensure that people of all age groups can have access to good recreational and sporting facilities.
This government investment is essential in assisting clubs to upgrade and in many instances extend their facilities. It is so heartening to know that participation in sport is growing among females and males and good playing amenities are essential.
I wish all the Clubs every success with their projects”, stated Deputy Brendan Smith TD.
