Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith has been informed by the HSE and by the RCSI Hospital Group that they are currently in the process of recruiting a Consultant Urologist between Cavan General Hospital and Connolly Hospital. He was also informed that this job was recently approved by the Consultant Appointments Advisory Committee and will be advertised in due course.
The RCSI in their reply to Deputy Brendan Smith stated –
“Currently routine referrals from GP’s are triaged in the Department of Urology in Beaumont Hospital which is the hub of the Urology service for the RCSI Hospital Group. Depending on the nature of symptoms and their complexity and urgency of referral, they will be triaged to attend the next available Urology clinic in either Beaumont Hospital or Connolly Hospital”.
Deputy Brendan Smith concluded that he had been raising for some time with the Minister for Health and the HSE the need to have a Consultant Urologist in the Cavan/Monaghan Hospital and it is essential that such important services are provided locally.
