United States Congress outlines again its strong support for Good Friday Agreement – Brendan Smith TD

Delighted along with Senator Billy Lawless to meet Congressman Brendan Boyle and other Members of the House of Representatives on Capitol Hill on the day that the House through Resolution 585 reaffirmed its strong support for the Good Friday Agreement.

This Resolution reiterated once again the full support of Congress for the full implementation of the Good Friday Agreement and it expressed its opposition to the reintroduction of a hard border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

The Resolution also reiterated the clear message from Speaker Nancy Pelosi when she visited Britain and Ireland last April that Congress will insist that any new or amended trade agreements and other bilateral agreements between the Government of the United States and the Government of the United Kingdom include conditions requiring obligations under the Good Friday Agreement to be met.
