Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith has been informed by the HSE that a locum Consultant Cardiologist will be commencing in post imminently in Cavan General Hospital.
The HSE also confirmed to Deputy Brendan Smith that active recruitment is currently underway for permanent substantive post.
The HSE in their correspondence following Deputy Brendan Smith’s Parliamentary Questions in Dáil Éireann on the need to fill the Consultant Cardiologist position stated –
“I refer to your below representation. Having reviewed the matter, the following outlines the position.
Pre-existing pathways for cardiology patients remain in place in Cavan and Monaghan Hospital and are as follows:
- Emergency cardiology patients continue to be managed within the ED/MAU, with referrals to tertiary sites as required.
- Patients can be referred to General Medicine OPD where general cardiology will be triaged and reviewed as appropriate.
A locum Consultant Cardiologist will be commencing in post imminently. Active recruitment is currently underway for permanent substantive post”, concluded the HSE reply.
Deputy Brendan Smith told Northern Sound that he welcomes this response from the HSE and he hopes that the permanent position can be filled without undue delay in view of the importance of cardiology care. I know that the expansion of cardiac services in Cavan Monaghan Hospital over recent times has been extremely beneficial for patients and the Hospital’s catchment area.
